Assistant Masters are appointed on a three years' agreement on a salary of £400 for the lst, £420 for the 2nd and £440 for the 3rd year. These sums are paid in dollars at a rate which varies slightly with the rate of exchange, in accordance with the following scales:-

A monthly deduction of 4% is made as a contribution towards Widows' and Orphans' Pensions.

In
the event of the Master's egreement not being renewed, half the total sum so deducted is refunded, if he is unmarried. The passage of the 'laster to the Colony will be paid as well as those of his wife and family. If his agreement is not renewed upon its expiration return passages will be paid.
If the Master is supplied with a furnished house he will be required to pay 6% of his salary by way of rent, and 1 per cent for upkeep of furniture. If he rents a private house, an equivalent allowance is made. Bachelors as a rule prefer to live in Mosses, hotels, or boarding houses, in which case no allowance is made.
